1Overview
This Acceptable Use Policy ('AUP') defines the rules and guidelines for using Mowly's services. It applies to all users of the platform, including the web application, Microsoft Office Add-ins, APIs, and any other services we provide. This AUP is incorporated by reference into our Terms of Service. Violations of this policy may result in suspension or termination of your account.
2Permitted Use
Mowly is designed and licensed for the following legitimate uses:
- Legal research: Searching, analyzing, and reviewing case law, legislation, legal doctrine, and regulatory materials for professional legal purposes
- Document analysis: Uploading and processing legal documents for summarization, comparison, clause analysis, compliance checking, and risk assessment in the course of professional legal work
- Document production: Using AI-assisted drafting, legal opinion generation, and template management for creating professional legal documents
- Document processing: Legal translation, pseudonymization of personal data in documents, and transcription of legal proceedings
- Professional communication: Using the Outlook Add-in for professional email assistance related to legal practice
- Education and training: Using the platform for legal education, continuing professional development, and training purposes within a professional context
3Prohibited Activities
The following activities are strictly prohibited when using Mowly's services:
- Unlawful use: Using the Services for any purpose that violates applicable local, national, EU, or international laws or regulations
- Unauthorized access: Attempting to access accounts, systems, or data belonging to other users, or attempting to bypass any security measure or access control
- System abuse: Using automated tools (bots, scrapers, crawlers) to access the Services except through officially provided APIs, or performing denial-of-service attacks or load testing without authorization
- Data harvesting: Systematically extracting, collecting, or downloading large volumes of data from the platform for purposes other than normal professional use
- Intellectual property infringement: Uploading, sharing, or distributing content that infringes on third-party copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets, or other proprietary rights
- Redistribution: Reselling, sublicensing, or commercially redistributing access to the Services, AI Output, or search results without Mowly's express written consent
- Circumvention: Attempting to bypass usage limits, Credit restrictions, subscription tier limitations, or any technical measures designed to enforce these Terms
- Malicious content: Uploading files containing malware, viruses, ransomware, or other harmful code, or using the Services to distribute such content
- Misrepresentation: Impersonating another person, entity, or Mowly representative, or falsely claiming affiliation with any person or entity
- Platform disruption: Any action that interferes with or disrupts the Services, servers, networks, or infrastructure, or that degrades the experience for other users
4Content Standards
All content submitted to or generated through the Services must comply with these standards:
- Legality: Content must not be illegal, defamatory, threatening, harassing, discriminatory, or otherwise objectionable under applicable law
- Confidentiality: Users must ensure they have the right to submit any content for processing, particularly documents containing privileged, confidential, or third-party information
- Personal data: When submitting documents containing personal data of third parties, users must have a lawful basis for processing under GDPR and must use the pseudonymization features where appropriate
- Professional standards: Content and use of the platform must be consistent with the professional standards and codes of conduct applicable to legal professionals in your jurisdiction
- No harmful content: Content must not promote violence, illegal activities, or the exploitation of any person
- Accuracy: Users must not deliberately submit false, misleading, or fabricated content with the intent to generate misleading AI Output
5AI Usage Rules
When using Mowly's AI-powered features, you must adhere to these specific rules:
- Professional review: All AI Output must be reviewed by a qualified legal professional before being used in any professional capacity, submitted to any court, or provided to any client
- Verification obligation: Users must verify all legal citations, case references, statutory provisions, and factual claims in AI Output against primary sources
- Disclosure: Where required by professional rules, court rules, or applicable law, users must disclose the use of AI tools in the preparation of legal documents or submissions
- No autonomous use: The Services must not be used as a fully autonomous system for providing legal advice or making legal decisions without human oversight and professional judgment
- Prompt engineering: Users must not attempt to manipulate AI systems through adversarial prompts designed to bypass safety measures, generate harmful content, or produce output that violates these Terms
- Output attribution: Users must not attribute AI Output to a human author in a manner that could mislead clients, courts, or opposing parties about the origin of the content
6System Integrity
Users must respect the integrity and security of the platform:
- No reverse engineering: Users must not reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or otherwise attempt to derive the source code or underlying algorithms of the Services
- No vulnerability exploitation: Users must not exploit any vulnerability in the Services. If you discover a vulnerability, please report it responsibly to security@mowly.com
- Rate limits: Users must respect all rate limits and usage quotas. Excessive API calls or rapid automated requests that could degrade service for others are prohibited
- No interference: Users must not attempt to probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the system or network, or breach security or authentication measures
- Credential security: Users must maintain the security of their account credentials and API keys, and must not share them with unauthorized third parties
7Account Responsibilities
Account holders bear specific responsibilities:
- Individual accounts: Each account is for a single user. Sharing account credentials with multiple people is prohibited unless your subscription explicitly allows multiple seats
- Team management: For team or enterprise plans, account administrators are responsible for managing user access and ensuring all team members comply with this AUP
- Activity monitoring: You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account, including activity by any person who has access to your account with or without your permission
- Prompt reporting: You must promptly report any unauthorized access to your account or any breach of these Terms to support@mowly.ai
- Data responsibility: You are responsible for maintaining appropriate backups of any data you submit to the Services that you may need to retain
8Reporting Violations
If you become aware of any violation of this Acceptable Use Policy, please report it to legal@mowly.ai. Reports should include as much detail as possible, including the nature of the violation, when it occurred, and any evidence available. All reports will be investigated confidentially. We will not retaliate against anyone who reports a violation in good faith.
9Enforcement
Mowly reserves the right to take appropriate action in response to violations of this AUP:
- Investigation: We may investigate any suspected violation and may access account data as necessary for the investigation, subject to our Privacy Policy
- Warning: For minor or first-time violations, we may issue a written warning specifying the violation and required corrective action
- Suspension: We may temporarily suspend access to the Services for serious violations or repeated minor violations, with notice where practicable
- Termination: We may immediately terminate accounts for severe violations, including illegal activity, security breaches, or persistent abuse
- Legal action: We reserve the right to pursue legal remedies, including injunctive relief and damages, for violations that cause harm to Mowly, its users, or third parties
10Policy Modifications
Mowly may update this Acceptable Use Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated with at least 30 days' notice via email or a prominent notice on the platform. Continued use of the Services after the effective date of changes constitutes acceptance of the modified policy. The latest version of this AUP is always available at /legal/acceptable-use.
